Advertising Interior Design on the Web

If you have an interior design business providing interior design services or you sell a product, advertising is a very important aspect to being successful online.  Many things you need to consider include the photos you put on your site, the content, and how you spread the word about the business.  Here are a few things to consider.

1. The photos you place on your site must be owned entirely by you.  You must have taken the photos or someone that works for you.  If you find photos on the web that you want to use for your business because they look fabulous, you must get permission to use them. You cannot copy photos because this is a copyright infringement of intellectual property and against the law.  Ensure all photos you take provide a clear view of the items you are selling.  Don’t post blurry photos.  Always compress your pictures so they do not slow down the user’s computer when trying to open your website.  This will cause the shopper to get frustrated and go to another interior design business.

2. The content written on your site also must be written and provided by you or someone on your team.  You can hire a writer if you aren’t the best with grammar and spelling.  Never copy content on the web because this too, is an infringement of intellectual property laws and illegal.  Plus, Google will blacklist you for stealing content.  When writing the content for your business, ensure there is enough whitespace on the pages and not too much writing.  If you are selling edge protectors, don’t write a book about corrugated cardboard edge protectors and custom packaging solutions.  Provide a downloadable document for anything that is more than 3 pages that you feel is important for the shoppers to know about.

3. Spreading the word about your business online is easy to do because the web is filled with networking sites that you can use as a resource.  Tell as many people you can about your business.  Don’t be annoying.  Always choose groups and sites that pertain to your interior design.  Blogs are another good way to spread the word.  Writing a blog shows the shoppers that you know about your products and you are knowledgeable.  Being knowledgeable builds credibility.  If you do have a blog, ensure you are responsive and allow shoppers to post their comments too.  That is a true blog.  Just keep in mind that if you have a blog, you must maintain it on a regular basis due to people posting links and irrelevant information on your site.  You will need to do cleanup on a regular basis to ensure your site is not pulling up for search terms and keywords that are not relevant.

Advertising for your online interior design business is easy to do.  The content and photos on your site are a form of advertising because they work with the search engines and display a visual of your company.
